Rhone Blend, "a pic", Stonetree Vyd., 2006 - SOLD OUT

Stonetree Vineyard in the Wahluke Slope appellation is an outstanding site high on the south facing slope of Saddle Mountain. Rhône varieties thrive here. We blend Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault and Mourvedre to achieve “à pic”, French for “at  just the right moment”. In 2006, this was more than an expression; all four varieties ripened within a few days of each other. We took the opportunity to ‘tank blend’ the grapes and ferment them together. This resulted in an earlier marriage of the components than is achieved when fermented and aged separately. The blend was aged for 18 months in a combination of new American and older French oak. The Grenache and Cinsault provide perfume-y aromatics, Mourvedre provides spice and the Syrah is the foundation of the blend.

Winemaker’s Notes:

Aromas of violets, orange peel, cinnamon and anise; flavors of carob, sour cherry, and boysenberry; firm tannins on the entry, mellowing through the mid-palate; complex of spices lingers on the palate.
